Our Team

The Foreign Affairs Review is one of the largest student-run publications at the University of St Andrews. Our subject matter varies widely, taking advantage of the unique angles our multinational writing team provides. The FAR works with analysts from all over the world. We aim to cover a blend of topical stories and deeper analysis, exploring the issues behind international headlines. Editor-in-Chief

Luke Caramanico is a third year from New York studying International Relations and Modern History. He is particularly drawn to the language of politics and the functioning of autocracies. Aside from his studies, he enjoys watching his hometown favorites, the Knicks and the Mets.

Editorial Team

Cornelia McDowell is a third year studying Economics and International Relations from Richmond Virginia. Her main foreign affairs interests are in international business, trade, policy, and conflict. Aside from her studies, she enjoys various sports like taekwondo, polo, and sailing, as well as traveling and her two Aussies. 

Sadie Golen is a fourth year student studying International Relations and French from Massachusetts, USA. Her academic interests lie in diplomacy, environmental policy, and international security. Outside of her studies, she likes to read, hike, and travel.

Sammi Li is a fourth-year student from Hong Kong, studying International Relations and Film Studies. Her interests focus on Asian politics and exploring the connections between culture and politics. Outside of her studies, she enjoys art, movies, reading, and traveling.

Paulina Kachalova is a fourth-year student from New Jersey who is studying International Relations. She is interested in all things foreign affairs, but especially international law and the new, rising threats to global security related to advancements in technology. Outside of her academics, Paulina loves puzzles, baking, ballet, and growing her Letterboxd profile.

Oliver Willoughby-Jones is a third year student from Anaheim, California studying International Relations and Modern History. He is interested in IR theory, particularly postcolonialism and poststructuralism. Outside of school, he enjoys watching movies, writing, and photography.

Marketing Team

Sophie Cooper is a third year International Relations and Social Anthropology student from Wales. She is particularly interested in the politics and international relations of post-communists States, global diplomacy, and international law. Outside of academics, she enjoys reading and cooking, as well as travelling whenever she can. 

Analysts

Charlotte Krausz is a second year student of International Relations and Persian and the University of St. Andrews. She lives in Maryland, USA. She is particularly interested in American foreign policy and Middle-east studies. Her personal interests include English literature and creative writing.

Valentina Bianchessi a third year student pursuing a dual degree in International Relations and Economics, with a multicultural background from both Italy and Brazil. Her academic interests are particularly focused on the dynamics of space diplomacy and the influence of leadership personalities in international affairs. In her free time, she enjoys running, spending quality time with family and friends, and watching TV.

Carina Macdonald is a third year student studying Russian and International Relations, from North Berwick in Scotland. Her research interests lie in the fields of Russian relations, international law and international security. Outside of her studies, she also writes for the St. Andrews Law Review, visits coffee shops, and plays sudoku in the library to procrastinate her deadlines (holding a personal record time of 3.5 minutes).

Leah Rose is a first year International Relations major from Oregon, USA. She is interested in international law with a particular focus on the prosecution of war crimes, genocide, and crimes against humanity. When not studying, she loves hiking, swimming, traveling, and going out with friends. 

Meredith Kovarovic is a fourth year from Louisville, Kentucky studying English and International Relations. Her interests include international security, the Middle East, and the role of non-governmental organizations. Outside of academics, she loves to read, watch films, hike, travel, and spend time with family and friends.

Isabel Garcia-Carrillo is a second year studying International Relations from Madrid, Spain. Her main academic interests revolve around terrorism and global security studies. Outside of my academics, she loves to swim, ski, surf and travel with friends and family. 

Greta Shope is a second year from Richmond, Virginia studying International Relations and Spanish. She is interested in international law and comparative constitutionalism, with an emphasis on the rights of privacy and expression worldwide. Outside of academia, she plays piano and trumpet and enjoys exploring parts of coastal Fife. 

Charlotte Bird is a fourth year Chinese Studies and International Relations student from Edinburgh who grew up in Hong Kong. Her academic interests lie in East Asian studies and the geopolitics of renewable energy. She has just come back from studying abroad in Taipei and is on a journey to recreate the Din Tai Fung menu. 

Matthew Lamont is a fourth year studying Arabic and Mathematics from Newcastle-upon-Tyne. He is most interested in Middle Eastern regional affairs, as well as how global events affect minority and indigenous communities. Interests of his include playing rugby, skiing and travelling.

Charlotte Burg is half-French, half-British, and in her third year studying International Relations and Psychology. Her main foreign affairs interests include human rights, foreign policy decision making and the EU. She is also a keen traveller and loves discovering new places!

Michaela Clark is a second year student from New York studying International Relations and Art History. She is interested in international law and security, along with human rights. Outside of her studies, she enjoys reading, traveling, and listening to new music.

Sophie Rose Jenkins is a first year from Glasgow studying Comparative Literature and Classical Studies but taking IR as their third module. She is particularly interested in becoming a political correspondent following graduation and is eager to learn as much as they can about foreign affairs, having never truly studied it before! Outside of politics and writing she sings, dances, acts, plays clarinet, and is taking lessons in tennis and lacrosse.

Guy Shafar is a postgraduate student from Glasgow studying MLitt Global, Social and Political Thought. He is interested in conflict resolution and human rights issues as well as international trade policy and economic cooperation. Outside of his studies he enjoys sports like Cricket and American Football as well as visiting museums and art galleries.

Nur Rahman is a second year International Relations and Sustainable Development student from Islamabad, Pakistan. Nur’s interests in foreign affairs have stemmed from her growing up in Pakistan, Dubai, South Africa, and London. Outside of her academics, Nur loves travelling,  reading, trying new restaurants, and spending time at the beach.

Bohdan Tierokhin is from Ukraine and is currently in his third year at the University of Dundee, studying International Relations and Politics. His main interests lie in Russian-Ukrainian relations, war strategy, and military doctrines, with a particular focus on modern warfare. In his free time, he enjoys jogging and writing about warfare, as well as attending conferences on international affairs.

Sofiia Yevmenkina is a third-year International Relations and Politics student at the University of Dundee from Ukraine. Her academic interests include global politics, investigating and comparing the economic, social, and political aspects of Ukraine and the UK, as well as researching nationalism, political theory, and political philosophy. She also enjoys reading detective novels and keeping up with the news.

Ela Drinkard is a second year studying Classical Studies and International Relations. Originally Turkish and American, Ela has grown up moving every two years, which inspired her passion for IR through exposure to so many different places and worldviews. Her research interests include the interaction of religion and policy, as well as gender issues in the Middle East. Outside of her studies, Ela loves weightlifting, reading, and ballet. 

Alexey Shamagin is a postgraduate student of Strategic Studies from Chelyabinsk, Russia. After graduating King’s College London, he completed several internships at the UN. Alexey’s political interests are focused on international organisations, European affairs and sustainable development. In addition to politics, he is passionate about science fiction and Formula 1.

Nachiket Javali is a final year undergraduate student at Sciences Po Paris from New Delhi, India. He is pursuing his study abroad at the School of International Relations here at St Andrews. His main interests lie in the rise of Asia in modern international relations as well as the intersection of global inequality in the international world order.

Peter Chouyfati is pursuing a Master of Letters (MLitt) in Middle East, Caucasus, and Central Asian Security Studies, and is from Lebanon. His studies focus on the complexities of security and political dynamics in these regions, and he is passionate about exploring strategies to address contemporary challenges. His coursework selection throughout college reflects this interest and he’s dedicated much of it to Middle Eastern affairs, US foreign policy, and where the two intertwine. His hobbies include football, boxing, and watching movies.

Jean-Luc Marchand is a first year studying International Relations and Business Management from New Jersey. His main interest in foreign affairs lies in exploring African conflicts and human development standards. Outside of his studies, he enjoys tennis, golf, skiing, and house music.

Myra Kong is a fourth year Mathematics and International Relations student from Hong Kong. She is interested in Asian security studies and Marxism as a political philosophy. She enjoys playing tennis and cooking in her free time. 

Mathias Katsuya is a fourth-year student of International Relations from Lisbon, Portugal. His research interests centre on counterterrorism and intelligence studies, particularly within the context of the European Union. Outside of academics, Mathias enjoys reading, hill walking, and rock climbing.

Kate MacGregor is a third year student from Toronto, Canada, studying International Relations and Economics. She has a strong interest in international trade, diplomacy, and security studies, and enjoys exploring a wide range of geographic regions through her research. Outside of academics, she spends her time hiking and skiing, and is currently on a semester abroad at the Swedish Defence University in Stockholm.

Sofia Podini is a second year International Relations and Modern History student from Washington, DC. She is interested in international development issues, particularly relating to education, gender, and trade. Outside of her studies, she enjoys travelling, yoga, skiing, and trying out new coffee spots.

Amélie Didda is a second year student from New York studying International Relations and Spanish. She is most interested in understanding the lasting effects of colonialism on the international system. Outside of the classroom, she enjoys running and watching movies.

Noura McNelis Mahmoud is a fourth-year International Relations and Modern History student from California. Her main interests in foreign affairs centers on human rights, migration, violence, and cultural currents. In her free time, Noura enjoys writing poetry and exploring new places. 

Mariana Edward is a third year from Edinburgh studying International Relations and Philosophy. She is particularly interested in the way in which wider social and philosophical drivers influence public policy. Outside of her studies, she enjoys running to the soundtrack of a good podcast, and seeing friends.

Cosi Lovegrove-Leak is a fourth year studying International Relations from California. She is most interested in understanding the dynamics of conflict, the role of non-state actors, religion, foreign intervention, and how peace can come about. In her free time, she enjoys watching movies, listening to music and, travelling. 

Silvia Cribari is a second year student from Italy, studying International Relations and English Literature. Her main academic interests lie in human rights, political and cultural connections, and threats to international security. Outside of studies, she enjoys going out with friends, reading, playing tennis, and traveling.

Brett Ingram is a fourth year Management and International Relations student from Connecticut. His primary interest in foreign affairs is the shifting spheres of influence between Western and Eastern powers. When he’s not in class or writing about IR, he works for Playfair Consultancy and hits a friends' poker night every Thursday. I'm usually at the pub or the library or the pub. 

Kritvi Gupta is a third year International Relations a student from New Delhi, with an interest in postcolonial studies and poststructural theories. Outside of academics, she enjoys watching films and travelling. 

Emaan Naeem is a second year Economics and Philosophy student from Faisalabad, Pakistan. Her foreign-affairs interests lie in exploring global trade and financial institutions. Aside from that, she dabbles in theatre & illustration for student magazines and enjoys the occasional 6am dip in the sea.
